Friends and family that come over always ask where they can put their jackets as we have no real coat hanger to hang it on. The thought of making one has been on my mind for a long time now, but in some way it was hard to push myself and start with it. One reason in particular was that I wanted to use old doorknobs to do some up-cycling.

After many visits to secondhand shops I still could not find them, until one day I entered a store named ‘Flying Tiger’ and spotted some doorknobs! I decided to take some with me and later on I bought two more that same day at ‘Xenos’. Too bad I could not pursue my up-cycling project, but hey I am already using an old pallet. That must be some kind of balance of ‘something old, something new’.
DIY coat hanger - doorknobs

I used a piece of a pallet, which I have sandpapered and treated, to function as a hanging coat hanger. You can easily saw a piece off a pallet according to your preferences. The remaining job is to hang the pallet and drill holes in the selected places for the doorknobs to be attached. After drilling the holes, you can attach the doorknobs. Simple as that! Here are some photo’s that illustrate how the job is done. Vertically, I also left some excess wood to add some old-skool handles.

Speak your mind!
